Bishop Fleming

Bishop Fleming have hosted two work experience schemes, and these have involved students from City of Bristol College and St Brendan’s Sixth Form, both weeks have been in collaboration with Bristol Future Talent Partnership.

Both weeks were hosted in the Bristol office of Bishop Fleming.  Their aim was to educate students about the different roles and career options available in an accountancy firm.

At the start of the week students were tasked with engaging in a team building activity, the aim of this was to encourage communication and collaboration amongst the group. Students were also given the opportunity to work with different departments across the business.   Training and mentoring sessions were delivered to support CV writing skills and students were encouraged to engage in Mock interviews with people from across the business.

All students were tasked with a group project, which involved needing to design and deliver a presentation to senior members of the business on their last day.  The project topics included ‘How could Bishop Fleming become a more inclusive workplace’, this encouraged the students to explore national weeks/days that could be celebrated and/or have awareness raised about.

Feedback from the students was positive.

  • “I particularly enjoyed working with senior staff and the interview”,

  • “I learnt confidence in how to communicate”,

  • “I learnt that there are lots of opportunities in this career”.

Teachers from both colleges/schools have commented on the students’ positive experiences and how this will help with their future career choice.

As a business we value these events, it is great to work with our community and provide students insight into how a career in professional services work.  We look forward to working with Bristol Future Talent Partnership in the future.
