In March 2023, HL ran its second BFTP Insight week, the first being in July 2022. We welcomed 12 Sixth Form students, from St Brendon's and City of Bristol College for a week-long work experience. 

 As part of the week the students participated in a number of sessions, including:

• Talks from colleagues across different parts of HL to better understand our business and our clients

• Career confidence workshops including interview skills, early careers insights and financial wellbeing education

• A week-long project about what they learned which culminated in a presentation on their final day

Our aims with initiatives like these, are to raise the profile of HL as an employer and promote our Early Careers opportunities, especially our apprenticeship programmes, to break down potential barriers and build skills and awareness that help young people's future careers.

We also hope to change the perceptions students might have about working in businesses like HL and were thrilled by the feedback provided by the students, who overall rated the week 4.67/5 and 100% of them said they would recommend this insight week to another student:

“HL is really the kind of company I want to work in because of the environment and how helpful and friendly everyone is around the company even if they are assigned with helping our work experience.”

“Since I’ve experienced what it was like to work in this company, it gives me more confidence in applying and working with other people in this company.”

"I enjoyed all the sessions and I enjoyed meeting every single individual who conducted the insight sessions."

It is a fantastic initiative for us at HL to be involved in, it means we get to work with students that may not have typically been interested in a work placement at company like ours and we will hopefully see some pull though from these insight weeks into applications to our early careers programmes.
